If our quilt panels are “culture” taking material form,” then what abstract, conceptual, or metaphysical aspects” of our culture are they embodying?
The quilt panels are embodying the emotions and relationships that each of us as individuals are tied together with within a culture. They also embody stories of someone and/or something that tell an undeniable truth. My panel is about Gil Scott Heron, a famous musician that died from AIDS in 2011. The culture embodied within his panel is shown through the musical notes. The musical notes are carried across many genres of music and shared among many cultures.
